We are what we believe. Our lives are shaped by our beliefs.
Our birthplace influences our worldview. Our ideologies are shaped by our religions. We are brought up in accordance with the values that our family and society consider important. All our thoughts are influenced by our parents, friends, and everyone else we come into contact with. Our schooling and education have influenced our thinking patterns.
Our tastes are shaped by the television programmes and movies we watch. Our thoughts are determined by all the things we have witnessed and heard. Our truths are shaped by all our experiences. We are constantly shaped by our surroundings and environment. All of these factors in various combinations and probabilities influence how we perceive everything in our life.
However, none of us realize that our beliefs do not truly belong to us but are influenced by our societies. Our beliefs are not the result of our analytical thinking or our logical reasoning. But, never in our lives, we have either doubted our perspectives or questioned our realities.
What we believe to be true may not always be true. Our beliefs are just what we assume to be true, and they can differ from the reality. And sometimes, there are possibilities for our beliefs to be the complete opposite to the actual reality.
Do we believe in the truth? Or do we assume what we believe as the truth? Most of us blindly believe what we believe to be true.
So when someone contradicts our perspectives and ideologies, we begin to disagree even before they complete their viewpoint. We don’t even take into account that there can be an alternative approach or a different perspective other than the ones we believe in.
It is the primary reason; we never listen to a contradictory idea with an open mind. We always focus on justifying ourselves and we just try to defend our viewpoints.
Moreover, we have lived all our lives only based on our beliefs. We have developed our lifestyle corresponding to our perspectives. Our minds functions only based on what we believe and for it to accept something different or anything contradictory it will have to rewire all its functioning in accordance with a new perspective.
And for our minds to adapt to the new truths they will have to battle with the rooted ideologies and to change what has been on the record for all these years it will have to perform a series of complicated tasks and it requires more time and energy. It is the reason, why we unconsciously resist and reject any perspectives that differ from our viewpoints. And, it’s for the same reason why we always feel difficult to get out of our comfort zones.

Also, we have never engaged in an open minded discussion. We have never witnessed a moral conversation on what is right and how it is right. From our childhood, we have always been conditioned to debates and arguments. We always argue to find out whose perspective is right. So, we always treat discussions as a personal battle and reject any opposing viewpoints without even analyzing. We treat disagreements as an emotional conflict rather than a logical one.
Adding to these, we have been controlled to just focus on our lives. And so, we have treated anything apart from us as unnecessary. We are comfortably numb and we don’t want to concentrate on what’s going on around us. So, even when a crucial conversation that could affect how our lives turn up, we dismiss it as unimportant.
But, sometimes it becomes very important to question our beliefs. And at times, where the beliefs of the entire society can be controlled and manipulated easily, it becomes a necessity to question our understandings occasionally. Such questioning can wake us up to the actual truth. So, in our journey of life, it becomes essential to analyze and question our world views and to unlearn any beliefs that we consider illogical.
To listen to a contradictory viewpoint without trying to defend us and to accept them if they contain any elements of truth is the sign of wisdom.
But, when are we going to question our rooted belief systems? When are we going to rethink our understandings with an open mind? When are we going to rewire our truths?
And, now is the time to stop holding on to our long held beliefs and ideologies that has been transferred for generations. Let us question what we have been asked to just believe. Let us ask meaningful questions challenging the beliefs of our society.
If we could build a silent conversation with our inner selves, if we could question our truths and rewire our beliefs, we could change our lives for our own betterment. And if we could explore in depth and continually adapt our understandings to what our instincts say, our lives would keep getting better.
Let us ask such life changing questions and continue them with productive conversations that can change the world. Share our content in your friends circle and do follow us on our social media handles. Stay connected with Vattam. We are here to speak the truth. We are here to unite everyone.
